Educational Technology magazine

My two most recent columns as a Contributing Editor for Educational Technology explain the beginnings of my exploration of learning analytics, a topic I feel is crucial for education today. Learning about learning has the potential to help us understand not only more than we know about learning itself but also about how to (and probably how NOT to) insert technology into the learning process. The first is entitled  “Learning Analytics and Educational Research” and the second is “Importance and Implementation of Learning Analytics.” To say the topic is crucial would be a serious understatement.

I have been fortunate to write a few other articles over the years for Educational Technology, with the first piece appearing in 2002. This can all be accessed on the Publications Page.

Technology for Language Learning

A BYU graduate student and I wrote a piece on the use of social media for language acquisition that appeared in 2013 in a volume of articles published by CALICO entitled, Design-based Research in CALL. Our article, “An Alternate Reality Experience for Language Learning: Design-Based Evaluation” reported on a project to implement alternative software built around ELGG, which was designed to provide opportunities for engaging experiences in an online simulation delivered via social media.
